The risks of generative AI in literary and artistic creation
While artificial intelligence offers powerful tools to create quickly and easily, its excessive integration into intellectual and creative production raises serious concerns. The standardization of artistic voice, accidental plagiarism, and the range of risks associated with copyrighted works absorbed through automated training, as well as the devaluation of true human cognitive ability, are some of these concerns that threaten civilizational progress in various fields of artistic creation. At Creative Minds, we stand for authentic human expression, encourage transparent creative processes, and protect the unique qualities that only human authors and artists can offer.
AI offers a tempting shortcut: where you used to have to struggle with a blank page, now a single command is enough. But it's precisely in that struggle, in the discomfort of not knowing, in the search for the right word (which can take hours to find during moments of absent inspiration), that the capacity for thought and the very thinking underlying intellectual creation is meant to take form. The writer who discovers what he thinks while writing, the researcher who only grasps a problem after formulating it badly several times: that process isn't «noise to be eliminated», it's the human work itself. By delegating the basic formulation, we risk delegating our very understanding of what we set out to create.
Remember that generative AI works with statistical models, producing an "output" based on data and models that already exist. In this case, generative AI will create something according to a command using elements that have already been produced before, without adding anything new on an artistic level. It's literally about making a work out of other works, putting together pieces of works that already exist.
And what happens when we want to stand out and create something entirely new? And, more seriously, what if we stop being able to create on our own?
This risk of addiction is real, along with the notorious overall decline in creation (and, of course, originality) that adds to the intellectual inability to process quality creations without going through the AI-anchored «filter».
At Creative Minds, we recognize the extraordinary usefulness of AI in learning: it is a genuine revolution, without disregarding the before-mentioned risks of dependency, inaccuracies and errors attributable to the AI itself (hallucinations are real: those who work with AI know this, there is no valid point on denying it: artificial intelligence, as should be recalled, operates on the basis of statistics, not setting on the absolute truth). With intellectual, literary, and artistic creation, the scene is drastically different: we are talking about setting an algorithm to create something new from elements that are not new at all, adding nothing to the artistic community.
